Carlos Alcaraz Garfia (born May 5, 2003 in El Palmar , Murcia ) is a Spanish tennis player . He is considered a tennis hope and broke some records because of his age.

Career

Alcaraz was U16 European champion. He is eligible to play on the Junior Tour until the end of 2021, but most of the time he already plays tournaments on the adult tournament series. The best result among the juniors was reaching the quarter-finals in 2019 at Wimbledon , where he was defeated by Martin Damm . This was also his last game as a junior for the time being. In January 2020 it reached 22nd place in the junior ranking, its highest value.

From 2019 he regularly took part in professional tournaments. In his first tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour in Alicante he was able to win against Jannik Sinner . This made him the first player born in 2003 to win a tournament at this level. In the following week in Murcia , he was only the fifth player since 2000 to beat Pedro Martínez, a top 200 player, when he was under 16 . Later that year won his first title on the ITF Future Tour . At the Challenger in Seville , he again defeated two players in the top 200, including Martínez again, and reached the quarter-finals for the first time. He finished the year in the top 500 of the tennis world rankings . After three finals on futures in a row in early 2020 and two exploited titles, he received a wildcard for the ATP Tour event in Rio . There he won his first match at this level in 3:36 hours against the world number 41. Albert Ramos in three sentences. In the last sixteen he was then defeated by Federico Coria . In the ranking list he was the highest so far at 314th place after the tournament.
