Carmen Giuliana Póveda Flores (born July 27, 2001 ) is a Peruvian badminton player . She is of short stature and starts in Parabadminton in the starting class SH6 in singles, doubles and mixed. Póveda is preparing to participate in the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo .

Athletic career

Giuliana Póveda grew up in the Villa María del Triunfo district of the Peruvian capital Lima and lost her father at the age of 11. She was initially active as a soccer player and volleyball player, and in 2016 she started parabadminton . Póveda studies film studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru .

At the 2017 Badminton World Cup for the disabled in Ulsan, South Korea, Póveda lost to Rachel Choong from England in the singles final . In doubles she won bronze with Randika Doling from Sri Lanka , and in mixed as a partner of Irishman Niall McVeigh . At the 2019 World Cup in Basel , she was able to return the favor by defeating Choong in the final and taking gold. In doubles, she lost with the American Katherine Valli in the final against Rebecca Bedford and Rachel Choong.
