Carmine Chiellino or Gino Chiellino (* 1946 in Carlopoli , Calabria , Italy ) is an intercultural literary scholar, poet, essayist, editor and translator. He publishes poems, anthologies and translations under the name Gino Chiellino , while he publishes his literary works and essays under the name Carmine Chiellino .

Life

Chiellino passed the Abitur at the humanistic high school Bernardino Telesio in Cosenza and studied Italian and sociology at the University of La Sapienza in Rome . In 1969, Chiellino traveled to the Federal Republic of Germany for his thesis on the economic and social situation of Italian workers in a German metalworking company. He completed his research stay with a postgraduate course in German and finally a dissertation. Chiellino wrote his doctoral thesis on 'The Futurism Debate' in Germany in the field of comparative literature at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . During his doctorate he worked as a lecturer for Italian. In 1987 he was honored with the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize (together with Franco Biondi ) for his lyrical work . In 1993 Chiellino completed his habilitation in comparative literature at the University of Augsburg . He also supervises theses and dissertations and leads the research group parola vissuta at the University of Augsburg and participates in SELIDE at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain.

As a literary scholar, Chiellino has specialized in researching the works of intercultural authors. He coined the term intercultural literature in the German language, which is used instead of the common but controversial term migrant literature . With his habilitation thesis Am Ufer der Fremde. Literature and Labor Emigration 1870–1991 Chiellino provides a complete overview of Italian, intercultural and German authors who deal with emigration and immigration. The work continued Chiellino as editor of intercultural literature in Germany. A handbook (2000) continued and finally he placed in the collection of essays Love and Interculturality. Essays 1988–2000 , the theoretical fundamentals of an intercultural novel. In 2003 Chiellino took over the Chamisso poetics lectureship at the TU Dresden and subsequently gave the books Ich in Dresden. A poetics lectureship and living in language. Chiellino co-founded PoLiKunst (Polynational Literature and Art Association, eV 1980–1987) in 1980 and was its chairman from 1981 to 1984. The following works were created under his editorship between 1983 and 1987:
