Carmine Tommasone (* the 30th March 1984 in Avellino , Italy ) is an Italian professional boxer in the featherweight . He was a lightweight Olympic participant in 2016 .

Career

As an amateur, Tommasone became the Italian lightweight champion in 2008.

He won his professional debut on June 18, 2010. In October 2014 he was Italian featherweight champion against Mario Pisanti and won the WBA Intercontinental title in April 2015 against Cristian Palma . In September 2015 he defeated Jon Slowey in the fight for the EBU EU title .

After professional boxers were able to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the first time, Tommasone was nominated by the national boxing association and started at the qualifying tournament in Baku . There he defeated Oleg Dovgun in the semi-finals, but was eliminated there against Amnat Ruenroeng and had to go into the decisive battle against Yasin Yılmaz, which he won on points. He then started at the Olympic Games and beat Lindolfo Delgado in the preliminary round , but was eliminated in the round of 16 against Lázaro Álvarez .

Back at the pros, he defended his WBA title against Jesus Antonio Rios in October 2016. In the fight for the WBO lightweight world championship, he lost to Óscar Valdez on February 2, 2019 .
