Carol A. Corrigan

Carol A. Corrigan (born August 16, 1948 in Stockton , California ) is an American lawyer. Since 2006 she has been an Associate Justice at the Supreme Court of California , the highest court of justice of the state of California.

Life

Corrigan attended St. Mary's High School in Stockton, where she graduated in 1966. She then studied at Holy Names College in Oakland , where she received a Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude in 1970 . After completing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Saint Louis University in St. Louis , Missouri from 1970 to 1972 , she moved to the University of California, Hastings College of the Law . There she received her Juris Doctor in 1975 .

She then worked as a prosecutor in Alameda County from 1975 to 1987 , first from 1975 to 1985 as Deputy District Attorney , then from 1985 to 1987 as Senior Deputy District Attorney . From 1987 to 1991 she was a judge in the Emeryville Piedmont Judicial District in Oakland. She then served as a judge at the Alameda County Superior Court from 1991 to 1994 . From 1994 to 2006 she was Associate Justice in the First District, Division 3, of the California Court of Appeal . During this time she was also a member of the Judicial Council of California from 1997 to 2001 .

In December 2005, she was appointed Associate Justice to the Supreme Court of California by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger . It was confirmed on January 4, 2006.

In addition to her work as a judge, she teaches as an adjunct professor . Around 1981 at the School of Law at the University of Puget Sound , from 1981 to 1987, and again in 1989, at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, from 1984 to 1987, and again from 1990 to 1994, at the Boalt Hall School of Law from the University of California, Berkeley and from 1988 to 1990 at the School of Law at the University of San Francisco .
