Carolin Babcock

Carolin Babcock Stark (born May 26, 1912 - March 25, 1987 in Southampton , New York ) was an American tennis player .

life and career

Babcock reached the individual finals of the US tennis championships (today US Open ) in 1932 , but lost it against Helen Jacobs in straight sets with 2: 6, 2: 6. In 1936, she and her compatriot Marjorie Van Ryn won the women's doubles in the same major tournament . They defeated Helen Jacobs and Sarah Palfrey Fabyan in three sets with 9: 7, 2: 6, 6: 4 in the final . She was also in the double-finals in New York in 1934, 1935 and 1937 , but lost all three finals.

In 1932 and 1934 Babcock was number three in the United States and has since been in the top 10 worldwide (1934 and 1936).

Carolin Babcock was married to Richard Salisbury Stark. The American died in New York in 1987 at the age of 74 of complications from a stroke .
