Sarah Hammond Palfrey Fabyan Cooke Danzig (born September 18, 1912 in Sharon , Massachusetts , † February 27, 1996 in New York ) was an American tennis player .

Career

Her successes included victories in women's singles at the American championships in 1941 and 1945. In addition, the doubles specialist won the competitions in Forest Hills in 1930, 1932, 1934, 1935, 1937-1941. In Wimbledon she won the doubles competition in 1938 and 1939. In mixed she won in Forest Hills in 1933, 1936 and 1939 and in Roland Garros in 1939.

Her twin partners included Helen Jacobs , Alice Marble and Helen Wills Moody .

Palfrey was married to Elwood Cooke , the finalist in the men's singles in 1939 at Wimbledon (loss to Bobby Riggs ). In 1963 he was accepted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
