Caroline Schlegel Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Caroline Schlegel Prize of the City of Jena was first announced as a literary competition prize in 2000. The external reason was the reopening of the Romantikerhaus in Jena as a literature museum in the same year. It has been advertised every three years for German-speaking countries since 2002 as the main and / or promotional prize for essay writing and feature pages. The main prize is endowed with 5,000 euros, the sponsorship award with 2,500 euros, which are provided by private individuals.

Naming

The award commemorates the Jena author and translator Caroline Schlegel (1763–1809), around whom the circle of writers and publicists known as the “ Jena Romanticism ” was grouped at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries . Caroline was a contemporary witness of the Mainz Republic and played an important cultural, political and social role in Jena. “Your letters paint a sharply contoured, lively picture of a life plan that represents the attempt by a literary youth movement to break out of the fetters of a bourgeois existence. These certificates are among the best that the German letter literature has to offer. "(Wording of the preamble)
