Carolus Lindberg
Carolus Lindberg (born November 5, 1889 in Helsinki ; † May 10, 1955 there ) was a Finnish architect .
life and work
Carolus Lindberg studied architecture at the Helsinki University of Technology from 1908 to 1914 . He then continued his education in other Scandinavian countries, Great Britain , Italy and the Balkans .
From 1916 to 1924 Carolus Lindberg was a research assistant for urban planning at his home university. In 1918 he founded his own architecture office. In 1919 he received his doctorate with a thesis on medieval stone churches. From 1921 to 1927 he was editor-in-chief of a Finnish architecture newspaper. In 1925 Lindberg became a professor for Finnish and Nordic architecture and ornamentation . In addition to his work as an architect, he is also known in Finland as a cartoonist and book illustrator.
Most important projects
Carolus Lindberg is best known for his restoration work in the churches of Hollola , Janakkala and Vanaja as well as in Turku Castle . He also designed the city arms of Hamina , Hollola, Rauma and Savonlinna . He also worked as an urban planner (for Lahti , Hyvinkää and Valkeakoski, among others ). The house of the writer Hella Wuolijoki in Marlebäck also came from Carolus Lindberg .
