The company Gustav Carsch & Co. operated from the 1880s to the 1930s, retail stores or department stores for men's and boys' ready-made clothing under the name Carsch in several major German cities. The company's founder Gustav Carsch (1850–1895) handed over the management of the company to his son Paul Carsch (1876–1951).

Carsch department stores existed in Düsseldorf , Gelsenkirchen , Oberhausen , Frankfurt am Main (on the Zeil ), Frankfurt-Höchst and Hanau . In 1933 the houses were looted and called for boycotts and Paul Carsch was forced to sell the department store in Düsseldorf on September 1, 1933. The house in Frankfurt was "Aryanized" in 1936 under the name Ott & Heinemann . In April 1938 the house in Gelsenkirchen was taken over by the textile company Kogge and adorned with the swastika flag.

The Carsch store in Düsseldorf is now part of the Kaufhof department store operator ; it was operated under the name Carsch-Haus until 2016 . Saks Off 5th has been based there since 2017 .
