Gustav Carsch

Gustav Carsch (born October 26, 1850 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ; † February 25, 1895 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German entrepreneur and founder of a department store chain .

Live and act

Gustav Carsch became known through the department store chain he founded in Frankfurt am Main in the 1880s. Under the name Gustav Carsch & Co he operated retail stores and department stores for men's and boys' ready-made clothing in various major German cities. With his death in 1895, the management of the company was passed on to his eldest son Paul Carsch (1876–1951).

At the beginning of the 1930s there were Carsch department stores in Frankfurt am Main (on the Zeil ), Frankfurt-Höchst , Hanau , Düsseldorf , Gelsenkirchen and Oberhausen . With the rise of National Socialism , the houses were affected by boycotts, looting and, most recently, Aryanization from 1933 onwards .

family

Gustav Carsch's parents were Salomon Carsch (1815–1879) and Rosa Carsch geb. Levy . He was married to Susanne geb. Albersheim (1852–1906), their children together were Paul (* 1876), Else (* 1879), Hedwig (* 1880), Walter (* 1881), Siegfried (* 1882) and Alice (* 1888).
