Köthe is married to the R.SH editor Miriam Köthe, who moderated as Miriam Jahn at R.SH.

Work at R.SH

Since 1987 Köthe has been working for R.SH. Since 2013 he has been the longest-serving active presenter on the station and one of its best-known voices, Volker Mittmann and Frank Bremser . From 1988 to the beginning of 2014 he moderated the morning show, which was initially called R.SH Moin, Moin and was moderated by himself. The show was later named Carsten Köthes Breakfast Club . He moderated it together with Mirko Kaminski, Alice Blohmann, André Dostal, André Santen, Alexander Baltz and Katharina Nicolaisen as well as Tim Koschwitz . The show has an average of 450,000 listeners.

Carsten Köthe helps

Every year at Christmas until 2015, R.SH organized a fundraising campaign called “Carsten Köthe helps help”. The listeners were asked to donate to support various projects such as the expansion of the children's cancer ward at the University of Kiel or the children's surgery at the University of Lübeck. In 2004, for example, the campaign resulted in a total donation of 285,820 euros and most recently 241,000 euros for apartments belonging to the Schleswig-Holstein Cancer Society. In 2015, the "R.SH helps help foundation" emerged from the "Carsten Köthe helps help" campaign. Carsten Köthe took over the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees. Instead of providing financial support to an organization only once a year, the foundation now supports social projects and institutions in Schleswig-Holstein all year round with the help of R.SH listeners.

Cancer

On January 16, 2014, he announced a cancer live on his “Breakfast Club” program and said goodbye to the audience for chemotherapy . He has chronic lymphocytic leukemia . According to him, this cancer is not curable, but treatable. He returned to radio on August 6, 2014. However, he switched to the afternoon program (2–6 pm), which he moderates together with Anneke ter Veen. On April 17, 2015, Köthe surprisingly handed over the afternoon program to Alexander Baltz in order to be able to devote himself to a new project that will start in summer 2015 and be tailored to him (see below). Anneke ter Veen was involved in editorial activities after the program was discontinued.
