Ivan Kirkov

Ivan Nikolov Kirkov ( Bulgarian Иван Николов Кирков , scientific transliteration Ivan Nikolov Kirkov ; born January 1, 1932 in Asenovgrad , † September 19, 2010 ) was a Bulgarian painter and illustrator .

biography

After attending school, he studied painting at the National Art Academy in Sofia with Professors Ilija Petrov and Kiril Zonew . After graduating in 1955, he devoted himself to painting and was able to present his first art exhibition in 1957 .

In the following years he created magnificent paintings and illustrations , posters and portraits and worked with the author and playwright Jordan Radickov and the painter and graphic artist Lyuben Sidarow together. From 1965 to 1967 he worked as a scenographer at the Satirical Theater Aleko Konstantinow and created scenographies for plays by Sawa Dobroplodni , Iwan Wasow and William Shakespeare , but also for films such as Inspektorat i noshtta ( The Inspector and the Night ) by Rangel Wulchanow . He also drew illustrations for books by Zanko Zerkowski , Elin Pelin , Ran Bosilek , Kamen Kaltschew and Iwan Turgenew , as well as wall paintings in Sofia Central Station .

Kirkov, who died as a result of bronchial carcinoma , received several awards and received, among other things, the bronze medal of the Association of Bulgarian Visual Artists in 1959 .
