Carsten Wulfänger

Carsten Wulfänger (* 2 September 1963 in Havelberg ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and was from 2013 to 2020 District Administrator of the district of Stendal .

Life

Wulfänger grew up in Sandau in the Altmark region . He attended the extended secondary school in Havelberg and graduated there in 1982. After completing his military service, he studied information technology in Ilmenau from 1984 to 1989 and graduated as a graduate engineer. Wulfänger then worked in the development department of the agricultural industrial plants in Havelberg.

His political career began in the course of the Peaceful Revolution . After his election to the city council of Sandau in May 1990, the latter elected him mayor. When the Elb-Havel-Land administrative community was formed a short time later , Wulfänger took on the role of administrative manager. With the merger of the Elb-Havel-Land and Schönhausen administrative community , he remained in this position in the new Elbe-Havel-Land administrative community in 2005 . Wulfänger was a member of the CDU district parliamentary group from 1994 to 2008. Originally independent, he became a member of the CDU in 2004. On a proposal by the district administrator Jörg Hellmuth he was by the 2008 council elected second councilor of the district administrator of the district of Stendal. On December 9, 2012, he was elected to the district administrator of the Stendal district with 50.2 percent of the vote in the runoff election against the SPD candidate Lars Schirmer. He took office in March 2013 and replaced his party colleague Hellmuth as district administrator. Wulfänger ran for re-election on November 10, 2019 and took second place behind his challenger Patrick Puhlmann (SPD), the joint candidate of the parties Die Grünen and Die Linke, who was also supported by the FDP. In the runoff election on December 1, 2019, Wulfänger lost 31 percent of the vote.

Wulfänger is married and has two sons.
