Carstens Shoal is an almost circular shoal on the coast of the East Antarctic Mac-Robertson-Land . In Holme Bay , it is just north of East Budd Island . It is at least 11.89 m below sea level.

It was discovered in 1961 by the hydrographic surveyor d'Arcy Thomas Gale (* 1911) as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions on board the ship Thala Dan . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia (ANCA) named it after David Robert Carstens (* 1934), participant in the hydrographic surveys of the shoals and geodesy at Mawson Station in 1962.
