Cartmel is a peninsula in south Cumbria , England . Historically, although north of Morecambe Bay , it was part of Lancashire .

The peninsula is occasionally included in the Furness peninsula , but must be clearly delimited geographically and must therefore also be viewed independently. The Cartmel Peninsula extends south of Morecambe Bay. In the west Cartmel is delimited by the River Leven from the Furness Peninsula, in the east the River Winster forms the border. The northern boundary of the historic county of Westmorland , which is also formed by the River Winster, is considered.

The rural area was controlled for a long time by the monks of Cartmel Priory . The Furness Railway helped develop the region. The only major place on the peninsula is Grange-over-Sands .
