Casey Jean Stoney MBE (born May 13, 1982 ) is a former English soccer player . The defender is under contract with the Liverpool Ladies and was for a time captain of England's women's national team .

Career

society

Stoney made his debut for Charlton Athletic in the FA Women's Premier League in 2002 . With Charlton, she won the FA Women's Cup in 2005 and the League Cup in 2004 and 2006 . After Charlton disbanded his women's team in 2007 under controversial circumstances, Stoney moved to Chelsea. From 2011 to 2013 she played for the Lincoln Ladies ( Notts County LFC since 2014 ). For the 2014 season of the FA WSL Stoney returned to the Arsenal LFC. After three seasons for Arsenal, she moved to the Liverpool Ladies for the 2017 season and ended her playing career in 2018. On June 8, she was introduced as the new head coach of the newly formed women’s team at Manchester United.

National team

In August 2000, Stoney made his debut in the English national team in a game against France . She took part in the European Championships in 2005 and 2009 and in the World Cup in 2007 . At the 2011 World Cup , they also took part. She made four appearances at the World Cup in Germany and has now played the most World Cup games for England's women with four other players with eight World Cup appearances.

On March 4, she made her 100th international match in the Cyprus Cup in the 3-0 defeat against France.

Stoney was the captain of the British women's national soccer team , which competed in the 2012 Olympics and was eliminated by Canada in the quarter- finals.

In 2013 she won the Cyprus Cup with England and was in the squad for the 2013 European Championship . There she was used in all three group games, but retired with her team after the preliminary round.

In the Cyprus Cup 2015 , which England won for the third time, she was unable to participate due to an injury. She was then nominated for the 2015 World Cup , but she only played the group game against Colombia for the full season. In the quarter-finals against Canada, she was substituted on in stoppage time and in the game for third place, in which her team managed to win against Germany for the first time , in extra time when it was already 1-0 for England. With this victory, England was able to win a World Cup medal for the first time after the men's World Cup title in 1966.

It was also nominated for the EM 2017 , but was not used there. She was also in the squad for the qualification for the 2019 World Cup , which began after the EM , but was not used there either. She played her last international match in preparation for the European Championship on July 1, 2017 in a 2-1 win against Denmark, as she announced the end of her playing career on February 19, 2018. In the future she will be part of the support staff of the women's national team, for which she played 130 international matches, making her fourth place among England's top international players.

Private life

Stoney lives in London. In 2014, she came out as a lesbian. Her partner Megan Harris gave birth to twins on November 9, 2014 and a daughter on December 12, 2018.
