Casimir Oberfeld

Casimir Oberfeld , also Kazimierz Jerzy Oberfeld (born November 16, 1903 in Łódź , Weichselland , Russian Empire ; † January 23 or 24, 1945 ) was a Polish-French composer .

Life

Oberfeld studied piano and composition in Łódź and Paris and worked in France. He was known for his chansons , film scores and operettas .

Some of his operettas are La Pouponnière (1932), La Margoton du bataillon (1937), Le rosier de Madame Husson (1937).

Under the Vichy regime he was deported as a Jew to Auschwitz and died either on January 23 or 24, 1945 on a death march . His body, along with eight other victims, was dumped at the Přelouč ( Okres Pardubice ) train station on January 24th . They were buried together in the Catholic cemetery on the wall of the Jewish cemetery. Oberfeld was only identified later on the basis of the tattooed prisoner number . The grave still exists.
