Le Schpountz , also called Der Schpountz , is a comedy film by director Marcel Pagnol from 1938.

action

Irénée Fabre runs a small household goods store with his uncle in a village in the south of France. He dreams of a great career as a film actor. When one day a group of film producers were shopping in his shop, he saw his great opportunity. He tells them about his extraordinary talent as an actor and proves his acting skills - without noticing that the troupe is making fun of him. This confirms his alleged talent as an actor. Strengthened in his faith, Irénée Fabre made his way to Paris shortly afterwards to find the troupe in the film studios. Once there, he introduces himself to the management as a great talent. This throws him out without further ado. Completely disturbed, he turns to the troupe who have encouraged him to believe that he will become an actor. She takes pity and explains to him. At last he sees himself as the victim of a bad joke. Desperate, he lets himself be comforted by Françoise, one of the film producers. He finally manages to win her heart because she sees in him a naive but sincere person - with qualities as a comedian. Eventually she got him to star in a comedy - a genre that is nowhere near as respected. But Irénée Fabre shines in her as a terrific comedian and finally marries Françoise. Together they return to the village in the south of France and run the home goods business together.

publication

Le Schpountz premiered in French cinemas on April 15, 1938. In the Federal Republic of Germany the film was shown for the first time on December 25, 1954, in the GDR on August 8, 1971 on DFF 1 .

criticism

“Fernandel as a lovable, stupid drip who believes he was born for the cinema. A director and a movie company make him believe he's a star; only the script girl is honest. It brings him to a role he is doing so successfully. Both marry and return to his father, a general store, in the Provençal village. A thoroughly successful satire on the film industry, full of humor and an accurate, unmasking malice. "

Remake

In 1999 Gérard Oury filmed the material again under the same title.
