Castanea seguinii is a type of chestnut fromthe beech family .

Castanea seguinii is a small tree or shrub that seldom reaches a height of 12 meters. The stipules are 0.7 to 1.5 centimeters in size, narrowly lanceolate and fall off when the fruit is ripe. The petiole is 0.5 to 1.5 inches long. The leaf blade is 6 to 14 centimeters tall and oblong-obverse-shaped to elliptical-oblong. The underside is covered with yellowish-brown or grayish, scale-like glands and, in young leaves, has light hairs along the leaf veins . The leaf base is rounded to sometimes almost heart-shaped, the leaf margin is roughly serrated and the leaf tip is pointed. Male inflorescences are 5 to 12 inches tall. There are one or a few female flowers per fruit cup . The fruit cup has a diameter of 3–5 centimeters. It is covered with thinly hairy and thorn-like, 6 to 10 millimeter large bracts . There are usually 2 or 3 nut fruits per cup, more rarely more nuts . These have a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters.
The species blooms from May to July and fruit from September to November.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
Castanea seguinii is endemic to China and can be found in the provinces of Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Zhejiang. The species grows in mesophytic mixed forests, woody stands and orchards at altitudes of 400 to 2000 m.

Castanea seguinii is grown in plantations . The wood is used as fuel , which gives the plant a shrubby growth . The nut fruits are collected in the warmer areas of China, mostly used locally and are rarely available on the market.
