Castle Loch is a freshwater lake in the traditional county of Dumfriesshire in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . It is located on the southern edge of the village of Lochmaben .
The lake is not to be confused with the lake of the same name, also located in Dumfries and Galloway on the Machars peninsula .

The lake is at an altitude of 46 meters above sea level. Castle Loch has a length of 1.3 kilometers with a maximum width of 940 meters, resulting in an area of 75 hectares and a circumference of four kilometers. Its shape is similar to that of a Stone Age arrowhead, at the north-northwest-pointing tip of which there is Lochmaben.
On the western shore of the hole of the Castle from the ends Kirk hole flowing vendace Burn a, which the lake volume of 1,493,379 supplied m³. The catchment area of Castle Loch is 7.5 km². The relatively shallow lake has an average depth of two meters and a maximum depth of 3.4 meters. The Valison Burn flows off on the south bank and flows 3.5 kilometers south into the Annan , which eventually drains into the Solway Firth .
In the 1880s, the lake was described as rich in fish and species. Among them was a population in Scotland rare vendace . On the third Tuesday of July they were fished with nets by the local Vendace Club . With the opening of a sewage treatment plant in 1911, the population disappeared.
On a headland on the south bank are the ruins of the 15th century Lochmaben Castle . Before that, there was a medieval castle on the north bank, the moth of which has been preserved.
