Caterina Lobenstein (* 1983 in Jena ) is a German journalist and editor of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit . She is the recipient of the Henri Nannen Prize .

Career

Lobenstein grew up in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. After graduating from the Pforta state school , she studied political science and musicology in Marburg and Bologna. She worked at the Leipzig Bach Archive , the Latvian National Opera in Riga and the Hessischer Rundfunk in Frankfurt. In Hamburg, she trained as a journalist at the Henri Nannen School .

In 2012 Lobenstein traveled with the German-Mexican journalist Amrai Coen for five weeks from Hamburg to three continents in order to find new approaches to print journalism in the digital world in São Paulo, New York, Tokyo, Mumbai, Cairo and London. They published their results and experiences on the Next Media blog .

She started writing as a freelance editor for Zeit Campus magazine in 2012 . In the same year, the medium magazine voted Lobenstein in the top 30 to 30 . In 2014 she moved to the economic department of the time as an editor and in 2018 as a correspondent in its parliamentary editorial office in Berlin.

In 2015 she was on the shortlist of the Henri Nannen Prize . In 2016, together with Matthias Krupa , she reached 3rd place in the Otto Brenner Prize, endowed with 3,000 euros, and was nominated for the Ernst Schneider Prize .

"For her deep, painfully factual narrative from the everyday life of geriatric nurse Heike Noe," says Thomas Hahn in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Caterina Lobenstein was awarded the Henri Nannen Prize in the documentation category in 2018. For this report entitled Why doesn't Ms. Noe earn more? she received the Willi Bleicher Prize in the same year . Lobenstein had accompanied the day-to-day life of a geriatric nurse, "which turns out to be a working day of gifts that mainly consist of physical contact," wrote Elisabeth Tadden . She tells of a "force-consuming balancing act on a narrow degree of vulnerability".
