Maria Maddalena dell'Incarnazione (German: Maria Magdalena of the Incarnation) (real name: Caterina Sordini) (born April 16, 1770 in Porto Santo Stefano (Grosseto); † November 29, 1824 in Rome ) was an Italian sister and founder of the order and mystic . She is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Caterina Sordini came from a wealthy and pious family in Tuscany. In 1788 she joined the Franciscan Sisters in Ischia di Castro near Viterbo . There, in 1789, as a novice, she had a vision in which she saw angels performing Eucharistic adoration , they were clad with a red scapular. 17 years later, in 1807, Sr. Maria Maddalena founded the religious order of the Adoratrici Perpetue del Santissimo Sacramento ("Eternal Worshipers of the Most Holy Sacrament"). On May 31, 1807 she moved into the monastery of SS. Gioacchino ed Anna alle quattro fontane near the Quirinal Palace . During the French occupation, she was temporarily driven out, but returned in 1814. Pope Pius VII granted papal approbation to the community on July 22, 1818. The sisters were dressed in a white habit and a red scapular and from then on lived according to the Augustine Rule . Today the religious community forms a confederation of 69 monasteries worldwide.

Sr. Maria Maddalena dell'Incarnazione was born on May 3rd, 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI. Beatified in the Lateran Basilica in Rome. Her feast day in the liturgy is November 29th .
