Catete is a place in the north of Angola , about 60 km east of the capital Luanda .

The place is the capital of the district ( Município ) of Ícolo e Bengo , in the province of Luanda . Catete is also the seat of a municipality of the same name (Comuna) in the Ícolo e Bengo district. The municipality has 24,156 inhabitants (2014 estimate). From now on, the 2014 census should provide reliable population data.
Mazozo, with around 4550 inhabitants (2014 estimate), is one of the most important localities in the municipality, alongside the main town of Catete.

Catete has a small railway station on the railway in the Luanda Railway , connecting the capital Luanda. Catete is also the largest cemetery for old steam locomotives operated by the Caminhos de Ferro de Angola railway company .
