Catherine Carswell

Catherine MacFarlane Carswell (born March 27, 1879 in Glasgow , † March 19, 1946 ) was a Scottish author and journalist .

She was born the second of four children. After graduating from school, she studied music for two years at the Dr. Hoch's Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main . In 1901 she began studying English literature at the University of Glasgow , which she did not graduate. Your first novel Open the Door! was published in 1920 and was awarded the Melrose Prize . Even if this is not an autobiographical novel, the main character Joanna is very similar to the author. Two years later she published her second and last novel, The Camomile . Catherine Carswell died at the age of 66 in March 1946. After her death, her son published the autobiographical fragments she wrote under the title Lying Awake: An Unfinished Autobiography .
