Catherine Newmark (born 1976 ) is a Swiss philosopher , cultural journalist and publicist .

life and work

Catherine Newmark studied philosophy and history in Zurich and Paris . In 2007 she did her doctorate at the Free University of Berlin (FU). In her dissertation with the title Passion - Affect - Feeling , she dealt with the philosophical theories of emotions between Aristotle and Kant . From 2007 to 2013 she was a research assistant for the history of philosophy at the Philosophical Institute of the FU , especially in antiquity and in the 17th century. I.a. In 2011 she headed the project Authority, Attention, Trust, Respect in the excellence initiative Languages ​​of Emotion .

One of her main research areas is feminist theory and ethics . On the status of philosophical gender research, she co-edited the volume Philosophy and the Potentials of Gender Studies in 2012 , which is based on a series of lectures at the Free University of Berlin. Newmark and Hilge Landweer lead this in their contribution on this and beyond gender.
