Life

Catherine Queloz has placed her academic focus on contemporary art . She had previously studied in the USA. After her return in 1987, she founded the first curatorial course in Switzerland at what was then the Ecole supérieure des beaux-arts in Geneva. As a cultural scientist, she has dealt with gender studies and postcolonial theories in her teaching assignments and in her curatorial practice .

In 2000, Queloz set up the bilingual (French / English) and transdisciplinary CCC Research-Based Master’s program at HEAD in collaboration with Liliane Schneiter (Professor of History and Theory of Medieval and Modern Art) . 'CCC' stands for Etudes critiques, cross-culturelles, curatoriales, cybermédias, i.e. a degree program that includes art criticism, interculturality , curatorial knowledge and media art . Between 2006 and 2015, the program was expanded to include various seminars for doctoral students and postgraduate courses. Schneiter left the company in 2008. Doreen Mende took over the management of Queloz in 2015. The project was funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (French: Fonds national suisse de la recherche scientifique (FNS)).

Queloz was awarded the prestigious Swiss Art Prize Prix Meret Oppenheim in 2014. The jury emphasized that their “alternative teaching methods in art are extremely influential internationally”.
