Cathleen With
Cathleen With (* 1967 in British Columbia , Canada ) is a Canadian author and teacher who, above all, short stories written and for her first novel in 2010 with the BC Book Prizes belonging Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize was awarded.
Life
Born in British Columbia in 1967, Cathleen With studied creative writing at the University of British Columbia and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts . Through her advanced training, she works as an English teacher in adult and special education, teaching them the basics of drama as a therapeutic basis. She prefers to work in socially inclusive school programs, so she spends her working hours as a part-time teacher in Vancouver , also traveling to Seoul to teach children about writing.
In 2005, the short story Carny featured in Human Perspectives was shortlisted for the Western Magazin Award . Her short story collection Skids , about Vancouver street kids in the Davie Village and Downdown Eastside area, was shortlisted at the Relit Awards in 2007 . Her work has appeared in various literary magazines such as The Antigonish Review , Grain and Fireweed . Though best known for her short stories, her first novel Having Faith in the Polar Girls' Prison , published by Penguin Canada in 2009, won the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize . In her work such as Skids , she processes her own depression from her youth as well as her many years of experience with learning disabled and socially conspicuous adolescents as well as young homeless people.
