Gayla Reid

Gayla Reid (* 12. May 1945 in Armidale , New South Wales ) is an in Australia -born Canadian author who in 1995 the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize won and in 2005 with the Marian Engel Award was awarded.

Life

Born and raised in Armidale, New South Wales, where both her parents worked for the local newspaper, Gayla Reid studied at the University of New England , the Australian National University and the University of British Columbia . She then stayed in Canada , where she was an active member of the feminist movement, edited the Kinesis newspaper and the literary magazine Room of One's Own, and taught women's studies at Vancouver Community College.

She began writing short stories and other fiction in the early 1990s. In 1993 she won the Journey Prize for her short story Sister Doyle's Men . In 1994 she published her first collection of short stories as a book, To Be There With You , which in the following year to the BC Book Prizes belonging Prize Ethel Wilson Fiction won.

Gayla Reid received the Marian Engel Award in 2005 to honor her literary work .

Even after more than 30 years in Canada, she often returns to Australia - some thematically in her books. In addition to her fictional texts, she continues to develop general explanatory texts in public legal education.
