Catharina (Cathy) Ubels-Veen (born October 28, 1928 in Kampen , † February 17, 2015 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch politician ( ARP , CDA , EPP ). She was the only member of the EPP who was ever represented as a member of the Second Chamber of the States General .

Life

Ubels-Veen is a trained secretary, but she did not complete a later study of sociology at the Free University of Amsterdam . In 1975 she became a member of the Protestant party ARP, which in 1980 merged with the Protestant CHU and the Catholic KVP to form the non-denominational Christian party CDA. In the year she joined, she also became a member of the Dokkum municipal council . In 1982 she left the CDA and joined the small Protestant party EPP, which also ended her time on the local council. In the parliamentary elections held in the same year, she was the top candidate of her party, which reached 0.7% and was thus able to win a seat. This made Ubels-Veen the only member of the EPP in Parliament.

In the elections of 1986 she was again the top candidate, but this time the EPP was unable to enter parliament. She did not take part in the merger of the EPP with the small left parties PPR , PSP and CPN to form the joint GroenLinks list . In June 1989 she left her party and subsequently did not join any other party.
