Walter Felscher (1976)

Walter Felscher (born October 12, 1931 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † December 9, 2000 ) was a German mathematician . His field of work was mathematical logic , in particular he dealt with set theory and questions of computability .

Life

Walter Felscher spent childhood and youth in his native Brandenburg an der Havel. After graduating from high school, he studied mathematics at the Free University of Berlin . In 1956 he did his doctorate under Friedrich Wilhelm Daniel Levi on a topic from association theory . Assistant positions followed in Berlin and from 1958 at the University of Freiburg , where he completed his habilitation in 1960. After stays abroad in Berkeley and Halifax , he was appointed to the chair for mathematical logic at the mathematics faculty of the University of Tübingen in 1971 . In 1990 he switched to the newly founded Faculty of Computer Science .
