Celestino Cavedoni

Celestino Cavedoni (born May 18, 1795 in Levizzano-Rangone (Castelvetro di Modena) near Modena , † November 26, 1865 in Modena) was an Italian clergyman, archaeologist and numismatist .

Life

He attended the seminary and studied archeology and the Greek and Hebrew languages at the University of Bologna from 1816 to 1821 . He was ordained a priest in 1817. He became curator of the Numismatic Museum of Modena and in 1820 received a position in the Biblioteca Estense in Modena. From 1830 to 1863 he held the chair of hermeneutics at the University of Modena . He worked on the collection of Bartolomeo Borghesi . From 1814 he had brought out around 820 publications. He was a member of the Accademia Etrusca , since 1845 a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and since 1854 an external member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences .
