Celso Luís Nunes Amorim (born June 3, 1942 in Santos , São Paulo ) is a Brazilian diplomat, politician and former defense minister .

Amorim was his country's foreign minister from 1993 to 1995 under the government of President Itamar Franco . From 1995 to 2003 he was ambassador to the United Nations and most recently under the government of Lula da Silva in London. Under Lula da Silva, he was reappointed Foreign Minister from January 1, 2003 to December 31, 2011.

After Nelson Jobim resigned as Minister of Defense in early August 2011, Amorim took over from August 4, 2011 to January 1, 2015 in the cabinet of Dilma Rousseff . His successor as Minister of Defense was Jaques Wagner .

His son is the multiple award-winning Brazilian film director, screenwriter and film producer Vicente Amorim, who was born in Vienna in 1966 .
