Cem Bayoğlu (born February 17, 1977 in İzmir ) is a Turkish photographer and visual artist who is known for his artistic portraits of prominent personalities, in which he uses unique light and color techniques.

youth

Bayoglu was born in 1977 in Izmir, where he grew up and completed his education from elementary school to university. In 1998 he completed his studies at the Dokuz-Eylül University and started to work in his own family business.

His interest in photography began at a young age with a slide projector .

Between 1994 and 2000 he played guitar in a band he founded with friends. In 2001 he traveled to Australia for a language course and bought his first digital camera there . In 2006 he released his album "Teselli" (German "Trost") with his own compositions. He later pursued music and photography as a hobby.

Career as a photographer

The transition from family business to the first professional photo studio in Izmir took place in 2011.

In 2013, in support of the “ One Billion Rising ” campaign founded by the American feminist and writer Eve Ensler , Cem created a series of photographs that reported domestic violence. This photo series was shown for the first time worldwide in the form of a virtual exhibition on Facebook under the name “One Billion Suffers”.

This series was visible for fourteen days and at the end of this period all content on the page - photos, likes and comments - was deleted in order to effectively draw attention to the pain and suffering of women and to keep it from being forgotten. Cem's "One Billion Suffers" series can be seen as a demonstrative tool for creating awareness and positive change in society.

Some of the works from this series were exhibited in the collective exhibition "What Color Is Abuse" (German "Which color has abuse"), which was initiated by the art activist Jo Stein in Düren , Germany . The exhibition was created with the participation of thirteen artists from different countries. The first exhibition took place in 2013 in a church in the city of Düren. One of Cem Bayoğlu's photographs was subsequently published on the cover of the “White Ring” magazine.

Since 2013, Bayoğlu has shot photographs, music videos and advertisements for many famous people and well-known brands. In 2017 the social responsibility project “Ten Thousand Warm Hearts” of the Forum Bornova shopping center, for which he shot the advertising film, was awarded a gold medal at the ICSC Solal Marketing 2017 Awards in the Corporate Social Responsibility category in Vienna.

In 2019 his works of art were exhibited for the first time in Europe at the Paris fair "Maison et Objet". Bayoğlu has mainly created three different series of fine art photographs - Sinful Colors, Berceste and Underland.

style

The techniques and compositions in his artistic photographs are reminiscent of the style of painters of the baroque period, who use asymmetry against symmetry, curvilinear shapes against geometric shapes and who do not recognize the rules and principles of classical works.
