The Cembra Money Bank AG is a Swiss financial institution based Zurich - Altstetten . Cembra Money Bank operated under the name GE Money Bank until the IPO in early November 2013 and was part of the General Electric Group. The bank has been listed on the Swiss stock exchange since November 2013 . After the IPO, General Electric only holds a little more than a third of the shares, a large part is in free float.

Bank Prokredit was founded as early as 1912. In 1998 it came under the wing of GE Capital , which had already acquired another Swiss consumer credit business, Bank Aufina, founded in 1953, the previous year. It was not until 2006 that Prokredit, which previously belonged to UBS , and Bank Aufina merged under the name GE Money Bank . In summer 2013 the GE Money Bank was supposed to be sold to the Aduno Group , but the transaction failed at the last moment.
The IPO as Cembra Money Bank followed in autumn 2013. The successful IPO is considered the first major IPO on the Swiss stock exchange in a long time. The name Cembra is derived from the Latin name for the stone pine pinus cembra and symbolizes the brand values of the Cembra Money Bank.
In 2019, Cembra Money Bank took over Cashgate AG from the Aduno Group .
Business areas
Cembra Money Bank carries products in the areas of personal loans , leasing , credit cards and savings . The credit institute is aimed at the entire Swiss market and the Principality of Liechtenstein, as well as neighboring countries. With the issue of the Cumulus Mastercard from Migros , the Cembra Money Bank makes around 80 percent of the credit card business. A credit card in cooperation with Migros Bank is also due to come onto the market in 2020 . All bank cards can be used with Samsung Pay . In the crowdlending sector , Cembra has been working with Lendico from PostFinance since 2018 .
