Ercheu ( Picard : Èrchu) is a northern French municipality with 785 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Montdidier and belongs to the canton of Roye .

Toponymy

The name Ercheu is derived from the Latin term "Arx" (988: Arceium).

geography

Ercheu is around 7.5 km south of Nesle and 13 km east of Roye and extends over the Canal du Nord to the Petit Ingon , which rises in the neighboring municipality of Libermont ( Oise department ). The top tunnel "Souterrain de Panneterie" of the Canal du Nord is outside the municipality, but is named after the Ferme La Panneterie in Ercheu.

In today's castle-like Ferme Lannoy, a monastery is called Notre-Dame in the 14th century.

history

There was a Merovingian cemetery in Ercheu. Since 1120 there was a leper . There was also a permanent house.

The place was destroyed in the First World War . The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .

The former localities of Bessancourt, Ramecourt and Wailly-lès-Ercheu have gone.
