Warsy is a French municipality with 143 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Somme department in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montdidier and the canton of Roye .

geography

Warsy is located on the Avre , 95 kilometers northeast of Paris , about 30 kilometers southeast of Amiens , 28 kilometers northwest of Noyon and about 9 kilometers northeast of the canton and arrondissement capital of Montdidier , between the neighboring communities of Guerbigny in the northeast and Becquigny in the southwest.

history

From the 12th to the 14th centuries Warsy was a fief of a family called Tournelle, and during the 16th century it belonged to a family called Chambly. By marriage in 1638 it came into the possession of Jacques de Rune, Baron von Fouquesolles. It remained in the possession of his family until the French Revolution (1789–1799). In the Spanish-French War (1635-1659), which was a consequence of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), parts of the village were destroyed.

In 1793 Warsy received as Warcy in the course of the French Revolution the status of a municipality and in 1801 (under the current name) the right to local self-government. Warsy was part of the parish of Guerbigny until the Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church was built in the 19th century .

During the Second World War (1939-1945) Warsy was occupied by German troops and was liberated in 1944 by Forces françaises libres (Free French Armed Forces).

Attractions

Warsy Castle was built around 1725 by order of Marquis Jacques-Antoine de Rune. It remained in the family's possession until 1968, even after the French Revolution. In the First World War (1914-1918) the castle was badly damaged and later, from 1923 to 1928, restored. It is privately owned.
