Champien is a French municipality with 276 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montdidier and the canton of Roye .
geography
Champien is located in the south of the Somme department, 97 kilometers northwest of Reims , 31 kilometers north of Compiègne , and 5.1 kilometers east of the canton capital Roye , at an average altitude of 91 meters above sea level . The municipality has an area of 8.77 square kilometers.

history
In 1793 Champien received the status of a municipality through the French Revolution (1789–1799) and in 1801 through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769–1821) as Champien et Waucourt the right to local self-government .

Culture and sights
In the church of Saint-Pierre von Champien there are several paintings from the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century, classified as Monument historique ('historical cultural monument'). One of the pictures was painted by Jean André (1662–1753).
