Carrépuis was founded in 1179 under the Latin name quadratus puteus ('square fountain') in a document from Pope Alexander III. first mentioned. The eponymous square fountain already existed in Gallo-Roman times (52 BC to 486 AD) and was located near a Roman road . During archaeological excavations , fragments of an amphora and a decorated spoon were found there.

In the Middle Ages and the Ancien Régime, the village belonged to the Prévoté of Roye. In 1198 Raoul Flamand was Seigneur of Carrépuis. In the 14th and 15th centuries there was another fiefdom called Le Quesnoy . It has been owned by the church over the years. In 1472, the canons of the collegiate monastery of Saint-Florent in Roye hid the relics of their patron saint there. They feared that Louis XI. (1423–1483) could take away the relics from them in the course of the conflict with the Ligue du Bien public .

In the Franco-Spanish War (1635-1659) the whole area was devastated by Spanish troops in 1636 . In 1653, Louis II. De Bourbon, prince de Condé , set up camp in Carrépuis and from there called on the city of Roye to surrender. In 1698 the Seigneurie Carrépuis came into the possession of the Marquise Belleforière de Soyécourt .

From 1636 to 1914 the community was known for its bell foundry . The foundry belonged to the Cavillier family who, among other things, cast bells for Amiens Cathedral .

In 1793 Carrépuis received in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) under the name Carrepuis the status of a municipality and 1801 through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) again under the name Carrepuis the right to local self-government .

In 1848 the architect of the arrondissement, Pierre Decheu, made the plans for a school building. The school was built on February 10, 1853.
