Soyécourt (Picard: Soucourt) is a northern French municipality with 182 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Ham and is part of the Communauté de communes Terre de Picardie .
geography
The agricultural community is located around five kilometers north of Chaulnes in the Santerre on a tertiary plateau . The municipality extends in the north beyond the Départementsstraße D1029 (part of the system of the Chaussée Brunehaut ) and in the south beyond the Autoroute A29 . To the north of the municipality is the Bois de Soyécourt forest. Soyécourt includes the hamlet of Wallieux with a wood and the district of Marcelet around the church and Mairie.
history
The place is first mentioned in a papal bull from 1106 as Soihercurt. In the Middle Ages there was a leper house here .
The de Soyécourt family belonged to the oldest French nobility. The Burgundians destroyed their castle under Charles the Bold in 1472. The estates passed to the de Belleforière family in 1581 .
Heavy fighting took place in the Bois des Soyécourt during the Battle of the Somme in summer 1916. Soyécourt was completely destroyed in the First World War. Although it is located in the rouge zone , the town was rebuilt after 1920 under pressure from the residents and with the support of some a. the city of Châtellerault rebuilt.
The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
In the Second World War battles took place here in June 1940 again instead.
