geography

The hamlet of Sainte-Émilie (formerly Leuilly) also belongs to the municipality north of Roisel and 13 km northeast of Péronne in Vermandois .

history

The municipality (historical name: Villare Falconis) emerged from a stately falconry in the middle of the Forêt de l'Arrouaise forest. Leuilly formed an independent community until 1794. In the 19th century, Henry Vion, the owner of the Leuilly Manor, founded a sugar factory that processed sugar beet. The renaming of Leuilly took place after the first name of his younger daughter. The community was almost completely destroyed in the First World War by explosions when the German troops withdrew to create a clear field of fire, and after the war received the Croix de guerre 1914–1918 as an award . After the war, it was rebuilt for almost ten years.
