history

In Lihons there was a Benedictine priory , which possibly goes back to a Merovingian foundation in the 5th century, in the 9th century it was subordinate to the Abbey of Saint-Bertin in Saint-Omer and later to the Abbey of Cluny , which was withdrawn from the state in the French Revolution . Preserved farm buildings fell victim to the First World War .

In Lihons there was another feudal estate that was dependent on the priory, the Grand Manoir.

In 1415, 1436, 1437, 1450 and 1552 the place was looted or sacked. It was completely destroyed in the First World War , but rebuilt in the interwar period.

The area around Lihons was the site of skirmishes for the Battle of the Somme in the summer and autumn of 1916 . The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
