Suzanne's Castle

Suzanne (Picard: Suzène) is a northern French municipality with 186 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and has been part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot since January 1, 2013 (previously it was not a member of any municipal association).

Located on the right bank of the Somme , which meanders here and is extended by ponds, it is around four kilometers east of Bray-sur-Somme . It stretches north to the D938 département road.

history

Remains from prehistoric times as well as Merovingian burials have been found in the municipality . The castle near the Somme was built in 1619 by the Valpergue family on the site of an old fortification. It later belonged to the Estourmel family and, in the 20th century, to the humorist Yves Lecoq.

In 1636, Suzanne was burned down by Spanish troops and in 1870 by Prussian troops.

During the First World War , the castle was seized by the French General Staff.

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
