The Rancourt Mémorial

Rancourt is a northern French municipality with 198 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Péronne .

geography

The municipality is located around 4.5 km east of Combles on the D1017 département road (former Route nationale 17 ). On the border of the municipality to the neighboring municipality of Bouchavesnes-Bergen are a French (Nécropole française; the largest French military cemetery of the Somme battle) and a German military cemetery (with the remains of 11,422 soldiers) from the First World War . There is also a smaller British military cemetery in the community.

history

Rancourt was on the battle line in the Battle of the Somme in 1916. The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
