Thiepval (Picard: Tièbvo) is a northern French municipality with 129 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot .

geography

The community on the D151 departmental road with the district of St-Pierre-Divion extends from the Ancre valley in the west to the heights to the east.

history

The remains of a Gallo-Roman camp were found in the municipality. There was a castle in Divion, which was besieged in 960 by the West Franconian King Lothar .

The community, which was completely destroyed in the First World War and as the cornerstone of the German defensive position was a focal point of the Battle of the Somme , was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914-1918.
