Miraumont ( Picard : Mirumont) is a northern French municipality with 664 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Albert and is part of the Communauté de communes du Pays du Coquelicot .

geography

Located at the source of the river Ancre on the border between Picardy and Artois, it is about 13 km north of Albert on the departmental roads D50, D107, D151 and D163. The Paris – Lille railway runs through the municipality with one stop. The districts of Les Héritages , La Fontaine and Petit Miraumont belong to Miraumont .

history

Traces of a Gallo-Roman villa have been found in the municipality.

Miraumont is first mentioned in 1106 as a property of the Corbie Abbey . In 1220 there was a hospital here. In 1532 the place was burned and plundered by the imperial family . The hospital was merged with that of Albert in 1697. On January 3, 1871, Miraumont was one of the scenes of the Battle of Bapaume .

The community, which was destroyed in the First World War, was awarded the Croix de guerre 1914–1918.
