Proyart (Picard: Proéyart) is a French municipality with 695 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Ham and is part of the Communauté de communes Terre de Picardie .

geography

The municipality is located around 6.5 km south of Bray-sur-Somme in the Santerre . The municipality extends in the north to the left bank of the Somme and in the south to the D1029 départemental road (part of the system of the Chaussée Brunehaut ) from Amiens to Saint-Quentin . The hamlet of Bois-la-haut belongs to Proyart.

history

Proyart was the scene of combat operations in World War I from August 10 to 12, 1918, in which Australian troops were also involved.

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
