Fay (Picard: Fayin) is a northern French municipality with 103 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Ham and is part of the Communauté de communes Terre de Picardie .

geography

The municipality, whose name is derived from the Latin term fagus (beech), is located around 8.5 km north of Chaulnes on the D164 departmental road in Santerre . Départementsstraße 1029 (formerly Route nationale 29 , part of the Chaussée Brunehaut system ) runs a little south of the municipality.

history

In 1324, Pierre de Fay is named as the landlord.

During the First World War , the municipality was at the center of the Battle of the Somme in the summer of 1916 and was completely destroyed in the mine war. The reconstruction took place at a short distance from the former location, the ruins of which have been preserved.
