Chuignes (Picard: Chuingne) is a northern French municipality with 134 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France . The municipality belongs to the canton of Ham and is part of the Communauté de communes Terre de Picardie .

geography

The municipality is located in a valley (Vallée de l'Enfer) south of the Somme around 5 km southeast of Bray-sur-Somme on the departmental roads D71 and D143.

history

On August 23, 1918, during the Second Battle of Albert, Australian troops with the Allied forces attacked the place with tank support and took it. According to a contemporary report, a giant cannon is said to have been captured.

The community received the Croix de guerre 1914-1918 as an award .
