The Church of St-Pierre

Monchy-Lagache ( Picard : Monchy-L'Agache) is a French municipality with 643 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Somme in the region of Hauts-de-France in northern France. The municipality belongs to the canton of Ham and is part of the Est de la Somme municipal association .

geography

The community lies on both sides of the Omignon River , the center of Monchy on the left (southern) bank. The districts (hamlets) of Montécourt, Méreaucourt and La Cabourerie are located on the north bank. In the south, the hamlets of Flez and Douvieux belong to Monchy. The A29 autoroute runs through the southern part of the municipality. To the north, the Péronne-Saint Quentin airfield is partly on the territory of the municipality.

etymology

The addition to the name Lagache is derived from the term Gachar with the meaning "Guet" (night watch).

Five Gallo-Roman villas were located in the area of ​​the municipality .
